Maze Project
The objective of the Maze project was to explore the basics of desktop publishing - text, graphics, and page layout - by creating a maze that can be solved by children ages 4-7. This allowed students to also experience designing for a targeted demographic. The maze had to fit on a letter size piece of paper and be attractive to young children. For this purpose, students were allowed to use characters from children's entertainment in their mazes. Students had to submit a solved version and an unsolved version of their maze. The maze was created using a vector illustration program, Adobe Illustrator.
For my direction of this project, I focused on creating the maze layout first. As I was laying out the maze, I thought of what would be most attractive to young children. Usually, children are more drawn to recognizable characters than general objects. I used characters from a popular show for young girls, My Little Pony, so that the maze would be enjoyable for girls of that age group.
I like the additional graphics that I incorporated into the maze other than the two characters at either end. They add to the visual appeal of the maze. I dislike the blank background, however. I could have added a faded color or pattern to add to the theme of the maze. |
